Obituary for Geraldine Chase Sargent

Pine Level, NC-Geraldine C. Sargent passed away at home surrounded by family on June 12, 2022 at the age of 79.

She was born August 28, 1942, in Nantucket, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Ervin B. Chase and Hilda Sylvia Chase.

After graduating high school class of 1960, she served in the U.S. Air Force for two years. After serving in the military, she married Laurence Sargent. They had two sons and lived in various states, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, and North Carolina. She received her Associates Degree in 1974 in Florida. After moving to NC, she worked at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC as an assistant administrator to the Dean of Libraries. She retired after 39 years at Meredith College.

Geraldine could always be found with a large Dunkin’ Iced Coffee in her hand and was more often visiting her grandchildren than at her home. Her TV had three stations- NASCAR, NCIS, and The Food Network, and in her cozy home a deck of cards was never out of reach. Her love and thoughtfulness reverberate through each one of her children, all of her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, and could never be replicated or replaced; there is only one “Grammy” Sargent.

Geraldine enjoyed visiting her home in Maine, Nantucket Island, playing cards, spending time with family and friends. She loved drinking coffee, listening to country music and Dean Martin and watching NASCAR. Geraldine was a loving and caring person to her family and friends.

Geraldine is predeceased by her husband, Laurence, parents, Ervin and Hilda, and Sister, Mary Chase.

Surviving are her brother, Ervin Chase, Attleboro, MA and Sister, Dottie Chase, Bridgewater, MA.
Her son, Lyndon Sargent and his wife Sherri, grandchildren: Piper, Ever and Theran of Angier, NC, grandchildren, Ashlar Sargent and his wife Chloe, great-granddaughter, Willow, of Salisbury, NC, Shaylyn Sargent, of McCormick, SC and Ascelyn Sargent of Boone, NC

Son, James Sargent, his wife Lisa of Lucama, NC. Grandchildren Danielle Johnson and her husband Michael, great-grandchildren Olivia and Wyatt of Goldsboro, NC, grandchildren, Chase Sargent and his wife Tracy of Morehead, NC, and Noah Sargent, of Lucama, NC.

A Celebration of Geraldine will be held/ at St. Mary's Community Building, located at 7344 NC Hwy 581, Lucama, NC 27851 on June 26, 2022 in which the family will receive relatives and friends anytime between 10 am-6pm.
There will be a graveside funeral service held at Rest Haven Cemetery in Windsor, Maine on July 9, 2022, at 11 am.
