Obituary

AUGUSTA, MAINE
James R. Gagnon - age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Augusta on July 15, 2021 with family by his side.
Jim was born in Waterville, ME on February 8, 1941, the son of Milton and Dorothy (Jolin) Gagnon.
Jim married Diane Quirion on July 28, 1962. Together they raised three children, Jeffrey, Paul and Paula. They were soon to celebrate 59 years of marriage.
He was employed by Edwards Manufacturing, Statler Tissue and retired from Maine Yankee.
Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends as well as camping. Jim and Diane spent many years at Lily Bay State Park and met many friends that were like family to them.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Dorothy Gagnon; his sister Linda Grenier; and his sons Jeffrey and Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Quirion) Gagnon of Augusta, ME; his daughter Paula Gagnon of Winthrop; his granddaughter, Rebecca (Gagnon) Somerville (who was everything to Jim) and her husband Kyle of Winthrop; his great-granddaughter Tanner Somerville; and step great granddaughter Ava of Winthrop; his very special niece, Sandy Bilodeau of Gray (who was like a second daughter to him), as well as several nephews and cousins.
The family would especially like to thank Willy Veilleux and Dan Charest for their unconditional support, his hospice nurse, Betsy McGlashing from Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, as well as all of the friends that dropped off food and continued to check in on us during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to: Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240.
Family and friends may visit on Friday July 23, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday July 24, 2021 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta, ME. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Augusta, ME at a later date.

Diane and family,
Judy and I are so very sorry for your loss. We did a lot of business together, Jimmy was not just a customer, he was a special friend. We had a lot of talks and laugh together. I will miss him very much. He was such a good man and had a big heart. I remember when we got his truck in Ellsworth. He was so happy! I will never forget you Friend. Rest in peace

Diane and family, Dennis and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to you. I do remember when Jim used to come pick Dennis up to go job hunting after Statler closed. Off they would go in the morning with an upbeat attitude and come back with hopes of a new beginning. Jim was special to us in so many ways. We are so sorry for your loss and our prayers will be with during this difficult time.

So sorry to hear the news about Jim. We always looked forward to seeing him in our many years of camping at Lily Bay State Park. Jim was committed to keeping the campground facilities "ship shape." He is one of the reasons why Lily Bay maintained its commitment to excellence. He had the gruff exterior of a task masker but the heart of a grandfather. Godspeed, Jim. Know you are tending gardens from up above. Steve and Jean
