Obituary

AUGUSTA, MAINE
Mark A. Sousa - age 44, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 5, 2021. He was born on September 9, 1976 in Augusta, ME the son of Lawrence K. and Nancy E. (Lovell) Sousa.
In Marks younger age he attended school in Augusta and Mount Vernon, as well as Tucson, AZ. He moved back to Maine as a teenager and attended Buker School and Cony High School. At a young age, Mark began working in the drywall industry. He was also employed at Dick’s Used Trucks. He then returned to drywall as a subcontractor. He was one of the best drywall subcontractors in the area.
Mark met his wife Angela in 1993. The moment they met it was love, she was his “sweetbange”. They dated for a few years, but their lives took them separate ways for a while. Their love for each other brought them back together. She was the love of his life, and he was hers. They always said they had the greatest love story and anyone that knew them knew that was true. They were married, finally joining their families as one, in 2013.
Marks greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife and his four sons. He enjoyed camping every year at Jewett Cove with his wife and kids, his mom and dad, his grandmother “Mem”, who held a special place in his heart, his sister Sherri and her family as well as other family and friends.
One of Marks greatest enjoyments in life was hunting and fishing with his four boys. He even managed to get his wife out of her stiletto shoes and into hunting boots.
He also enjoyed coaching youth football and baseball. He loved watching his boys play football, baseball, basketball, hockey, wrestling and lacrosse. Those four boys were his pride and joy.
Mark also loved being in the outdoors with his family , four-wheeling, snowmobiling, trekking in the woods to find deer sheds, wildlife tracks and scouting for the next upcoming hunting season.
He had a passion for riding his Harley and burning rubber with all his sons.
As many of you know, Mark battled with addiction. That was not what defined Mark as a person. He was a very loving husband to his wife, an amazing father to his four sons, a great friend and a hard worker. He was a great man and would do anything for anyone, especially his family.
Mark is survived by Angela, his wife of 8 years but together for 16 years; four sons: Anthony Sousa, Jacob Sousa, Tyrell Sousa and Logan Sousa; a sister Sherri Lathrop and her husband Jamie; nephews James and Kolby; nieces Mikayla and Savannah; his maternal grandmother Judith Lovell as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark was expecting his first grandson in July.
Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, June 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 17th at 9:00 AM at Central Church, 20 Mission Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta. A celebration of life will follow the burial at the American Legion, 46 Griffin St., Gardiner.
The family requests that donations in Mark’s memory be made to: Malibu Detox & Residential Treatment Center, 22766 Saddle Peak Rd., Topanga, CA, 90290.

There are no right words to ease the pain of losing a loved one. As Mark knocked on Heaven's door, he was met there by Family. Lil Joe, Pep, Cathy and Gram. They are waiting for us to all be together again. My thoughts and prayers are with the Family, as the journey of healing begins.

Dear Sousa Family,
We are deeply sorry for the loss of Mark. He was such a nice man; to everyone and you could see how dedicated he was to his family. We got to know Mark and his family during youth sports, as our sons played together. Mark and Andy coached together as well. They would talk sports and of course hunting! As both families are avid hunters! I particularly remember this one time during little league season, it was a very warm Saturday our boys had a game. I with my parents watching the game under trees, where Angie and Mark were watching too. Mark left for a bit and came back with a box of popsicles. He offered each of us one. I recall my mom who’s health was not well; she was so pleased the young, nice looking man did such a nice gesture. She accepted the cool popsicles. Over the years, when I would see Mark at the games he always had a smile on his face, said hello and if you were lucky you would hear that great laugh. Please accept our condolences. Each of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Andy, Lorna, Drew and Leighton Gidney

Another memory that keeps coming to me was during youth football. We were all at Capital Park. As our boys were playing. I am pretty sure Mark was assiting with coaching. His beautiful white dog was right by his side. She was following him and staying close. He didn't have her on a leash. She was attentive and obeying her master. You could see the strong bond between the two of them. I actually enjoyed this site more than the game. As I am a dog lover. I was impressed with the bond Mark had with his Pup. I believe her name may have been Angel? He wasn't only dedicated to his family his dogs were family too.
