Bonita "Bonnie" Smith passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 17th, 2021, at the age of 78.
Bonnie was born on November 16th, 1942, in Brunswick, and she remained a life-long resident of the great state of Maine, eventually settling in Augusta, where she lived until her passing. She married her husband of 60 years, Thomas "Tommy" Smith, on February 18th, 1961; they had two daughters, Annette and Monica.
Bonnie was an incredibly hard worker that did not allow norms or the status quo to stand in her way. In a time when women were marginalized, she was a full-time mother and worked as a nursing assistant in an assisted living facility, a job she loved. Even more than that, together, Bonnie and her husband built a successful auto repair business where she worked full-time for more than 40 years. Bonnie was the voice of Tom's Auto Repair and built a rapport with any customer she connected with, which was all of them.
Bonnie was a strong, quick-witted, and talented woman with a biting sense of humor, a no-nonsense attitude, and a generous heart. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, finding an excellent lawn sale, collecting salt and pepper shakers, spending time with her family and friends, and so much more. Bonnie was an incredible woman who will be missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy; daughters, Annette and Monica; granddaughters, Megan, Christina, Samantha, Mahryn, Amanda, and Cynthia; and great-grandchildren, Samuel, Claire, Maliya, and Amilya; and many cherished, recently reconnected family members.
A celebration of life for Bonnie will be held on Saturday, May 1st at noon at the North Manchester Meeting House Church: 143 Scribner Hill Rd. Manchester, ME 04351. The family invites all of Bonnie's friends to come and celebrate her life with them.
