Gladys C. Brown - age 91, formally of Randolph, Maine passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 of old age.
While she was on this earth, Gladys touched many people’s lives with her kind nature, understanding, and positive outlook on life.
She was born in Augusta, Maine on December 15, 1929 the daughter of Charles F. Chase and Winnifred (Sanborn) Chase.
Gladys was a 1947 graduate of Cony High School.
Prior to her retirement in 1982, she worked for the State of Maine Department of Conservation for over 30 years.
Not being one to sit on her laurels after retirement she volunteered for the Augusta General Hospital Auxiliary for 32 years and devoted over 5000 hours of service. She was very active in the class of 1947’s reunion committee, working with some of her classmates and dear friend Raymond Pepin over 70 years. When she was in her 80’s, Gladys took a one day a week clerical job at Acadia Auto Auction in Richmond. She enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the auction and was treated wonderfully by her fellow workers, who made her feel special.
Gladys and her husband Ben, who predeceased her, thoroughly enjoyed camping and, through their adventures, made many wonderful and close friends over the years.
Gladys was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Barry.
She is survived by her loving son, Dr. Charles E. Brown and his wife Kathryn of Naples, Maine and granddaughter, Makayla Brown of West Vail, Colorado. Gladys had one especially close and caring niece, Carolyn McLaughlin of Readfield, Maine, whom she thought the world of, and a nephew, Gary Brown of Foxboro, Massachusetts who kept in regular and close contact with her.
Due to COVID-19 issues, there will be no public visiting hours and no public service at this time. Spring burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Augusta, Maine.
Gladys had a special place in her heart for our canine friends. Memorial donations may be made to: Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, Maine 04330.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.

I worked with Gladys at Acadia auto auction. She was a positive and caring person. She was so proud of her photo taken with Amelia Earhart. I truly loved Gladys

I'm feeling so sad to hear of Gladys' passing, yet so fortunate to have known her for 12 years. Her outlook on life was so inspiring and real. I'll always remember how her whole body would shake when she laughed and how much she loved her family and Sarah. Rest in peace

I met Gladys in 1977 when I worked with her at the Bureau of Public Lands, Dept. of Conservation. She took me under her wing and was never shy about giving advice! We stayed friends over the years and it was always so great to run into her and hear about her Ben and Chuck and then her grandaughter of whom she was so proud. She was a great gal. I will miss her.

I was so very sorry to hear of Gladys’ passing. We were friends for over 55 years!. I had lunch with Gladys and our mutual other friends many times over the years. We all looked forward to getting together as often as we could and reminiscing about “the old days.” I loved Gladys and will miss her fun-loving ways! I know that Gladys is having a great time with Ben right now! Farewell my dear friend!

Meeting Gladys is very memorable, she saw an add for my business in the Kennebec Courier 10 years or so ago. She loved us & we loved her, we all looked forward to her witty, charismatic personality! A very devoted lady to all & especially Sarah Jane her & Bens rescue dog! Unforgettable Lady! RIP Gladys
