Darren D. Bonsant, 60, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, November 13, 2020. Born in Augusta to the late Clement and Viola Bonsant he always considered himself "a proud Mt. Vernon Avenue boy”.
He graduated from Cony High School in 1978 and played for many years on both baseball and softball teams. He was a former member of the Augusta Elks Lodge.
Employed by the City of Augusta School Department for 35 years and known by many as "Mr. Darren", he was looking forward to retiring in June.
Darren was simply a good, loving and content man. Appreciative of everything and wanting nothing but being home with his wife Kate and “Fur Children”, a good game of golf, working out at the gym, driving his Mustang or Harley, watching his Miami Dolphins and a cold Michelob Light. He hated attention and changes.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Kate with whom he shared a happy life for 20 years and trusted her with his heart; his four legged children: Mallett, Olive, Percy and "the one who got in a little deeper", Bella the Bulldog; a sister, Elaina Bolster and her husband Bob of Florida and their family. Special life long friends, Chut, Hop and Cockeye and many others he held in his heart.
Due to Covid restrictions, a Celebration of Darren will be held next summer when we can truly share our love for him.
Donations in his name may be made to: Somerset Animal Shelter, 123 Middle Road, Skowhegan, ME, 04976.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song …
W. H. Auden

My heart is broken for you and your fur children. Darren was a very special person who I loved very much. He meant the world to a lot of people. As you, I can’t imagine life without him. He’s made the world a better place because he was in it. I know he will always be with you in spirit and in your heart. He will be that twinkle in your dog’s eyes, the moon beam shining in your window at night, the call of the loon flying overhead and more than anything, he will be that sense of calm during these difficult times. Always remember that I love you and will be there when you need me.

It was much too early to end our time with Darren. There were visits left to be made, there was golf left for all of us to play, there were more dinners to enjoy , and of course there were more libations to taste and enjoy ! There was that tie that needed to be tied, as well as so many more smiles and fun tales to recount, and the mustache that we could wear to remember the fun we made of his. It couldn't be time to say farewell for so many reasons, but his time had come, unbeknown to us and he left us behind to make our way without him. His picture taken at the last family wedding, will stay in our memory forever as we acknowledge that his wedding into our family was a treasure for us to enjoy. Chuck announcing the he now had three sons, welcoming Darren, into the family for too short a period of time. Calling to congratulate him when the Dolphins won, brings us another special memory to treasure !
Memories are all we have left, but those memories are warm, fun and so precious and we will treasure them until our time comes to join him ! Chuck and Esther Clarke

Darren was a guy who enjoyed a cold one while enduring the unending frustrations of the Miami Dolphins.
He loved driving his fast Mustang and his slow John Deere.
And he loved his wife and his furry family.
He will be missed.
