Grammy was such a loving and generous person. I'll never forget the summer of my fifth grade year, when I stayed with her the entire summer. She had won a little bit of money from a lottery ticket and used all of her winnings to help pay for my flight. During that summer, we crisscrossed the state of Maine--going to parks, the ocean, anything with a view. She would let me stay up late to watch TV. She indulged my love of Shirley Temples. My first exposure to an office setting was going to work with Gram. She made clothes for me. We worked on countless arts and crafts projects. She was the ultimate teacher and gave me unconditional love and undivided attention. It was one of the best summers of my childhood.

When we moved back to Maine, Grammy would have me and my brother over for dinner on school nights when our parents worked late. She went to our concerts and sporting events. She paid us for washing her windows in the summer, even when we refused to take her money. We would accompany her to Old Hallowell Days events where she was friendly with everyone.

One of my school projects launched a decade-long interest in family genealogy for her. She was a persistent researcher, even tracking down information about relatives in foreign languages. She was so absorbed in research that sometimes that was all that she would talk about--and that is how she became the keeper of our family's memories.

After genealogy came quilt-making. If she wasn't at home, she was likely at the quilt shop. She made a quilt for every occasion and holiday, and lovingly shared her beautiful handiwork with her family. David and I will forever cherish the quilt she gave us on our wedding day.

Gram had so many talents, and was so willing to share them. There's so much that I will miss about her.

I love you, Gram.
