Mark Allen Smith - age 64, of Northern Avenue, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday May 4, 2020. He was born in Lewiston, ME on April 22, 1956 the son of Bruce L. Smith and Anna L. (Bryant) Smith.
Mark was preceded in death by his father; brothers Bruce M. Smith, Stanley L. Smith and William A. Smith; and a sister Dorothy A. Smith Ianucci.
Survivors include his mother, Anna L. Smith of Leeds & Gorham ME; a sister Margaret Dickson of Auburn, ME and two brothers: Phillip L. Smith of Gorham, ME and Arthur B. Smith of Turner, ME.
Mark leaves behind a wonderful family and support system including his sister-In-Law, Laura Briggs-Smith of Wayne, ME; brother in law Peter Dickson of Yarmouth ME; sister in law Sue-Ann Smith of Gorham, ME; and sister in law Tracy Smith of Turner, ME.
He is also leaving behind several cousins: Kim, Karen, Chris, Jefferey, Paul, John, and Craig to name a few who shared in his childhood experiences. He says goodbye to uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews too numerous to list.
The family recognizes Mark’s ACT team for literally and figuratively saving Mark’s life over the past 25 years. With the help of his family and the Act Team, Mark was able to live a really good life and the Smith family will be forever grateful.
Mark loved fishing, ping-pong, fixing cars, music, badinage with his siblings and working harder than his brothers who tried to keep up with him. He thrived on picking up broken electronics and re-wiring them into new and different configurations. He was a very gentle person who was loved by his family, acquaintances in Augusta, the churches he visited and his case managers and doctors who did so much for him. His story is a remarkable one that we can all share at a service for Mark, to be determined when we can safely meet as a group to celebrate his life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.

Mark was a kind man who I am fortunate to have known for a good many years. He was a hard worker and took great pride in doing his job well. You will be missed by your friends Mark. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to his family and friends.

Thank you to Mark, who set up the tables at the free community dinner at St. Mark's Episcopal Church parish hall in Augusta for several years. In those years Skip and his wife ran the suppers and were always happy that Mark set up for such a big project.Mark was hardworking, neighborly, gentle to all around him. In recent years he'd come in to The South Parish Congregational church dinner and keep volunteers company as we prepared.H told me he had a job and seemed happy with that.
Thank you Mark, we'll miss you,
Jenny McKendry
