Bertrand J. Blais, 88, of Augusta, Maine passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He enlisted in the US Navy in June of 1947 at the age of 17. He participated in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts retiring after 24 years of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1970. He was extremely proud of his service and would often tell stories of his adventures to his children. He went on to serve as a Capitol police officer for the State of Maine, retiring in 1991. He was not only a loving father, but an extremely proud grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren creating memories that will last a lifetime. He was born in Augusta, Maine, March 26, 1930, the son of Aristide and Alice Blais.
He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Doris Blais who passed away in Oct of 2002 and a sister, Jeannine Blais.
Mr. Blais is survived by two brothers, Joseph Blais of Augusta, and Gerard Blais and his wife Patricia of
Winter Haven, FL, two daughters, Barbara Rodrigue and her husband John of Scarborough and Susan O'Connor and her husband Michael of Winthrop; his son Robert Blais and fiancé Tammy Lauchman of Dover, PA; five grandchildren: Matthew Rodrigue, Ryan Rodrigue and his wife Cindy, Hope Blais, Rebecca Blais and her husband Phil Welsh and Brandon Blais; four great grandchildren, Connor and Quinn Coull and Jack and Brady Rodrigue.
After cremation a private service and burial with full military honors will be held this spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.
