June Campbell Peachey, 99, a native of Augusta, Maine, passed away peacefully February 8, 2019 at The Sandy River Center Nursing Home in Farmington, ME. She was born in Augusta, ME on September 6, 1919, daughter of the late Frank and Isabelle (Weeks) Savage.
Mrs. Peachey was a 1937 graduate of Cony High School. She studied at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, ME, the Pratt Diagnostic Laboratory in Boston, MA, and worked for the State of Maine Diagnostic Laboratory as a Laboratory Technician.
June was a member of South Parish Congregational Church, charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Kennebec Valley Garden Club, and a member of the Augusta Country Club. She was active in the Republican Party doing volunteer work for Governor John Reed at the Blaine House. She enjoyed playing bridge, cribbage and was an avid golfer competing in Maine State Amateur tournaments.
June treasured her time spent with family and friends at her cottage on Togus Pond, at her Manchester residence, and at her second home in Largo, FL. She and Victor Peachey traveled extensively throughout the United States, England, and visited her son, Wallace and family in Saudi Arabia. She was a true “Mainer” and loved picking strawberries and making jam, taking backroad trips throughout Maine with an egg salad sandwich and thermos of coffee and an occasional donut, baked bean suppers, fish and game outings, Charity Ball, wreath making at the Congregational Church, and fall fairs especially the Windsor Fair.
June was predeceased by husbands: Herbert A. Turner, Wallace S. Campbell, and Victor K. Peachey; three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, April Napolitano and husband Michael of Manchester, ME; her son Wallace D. Campbell and wife Darcy of Lakeville, ME, and son Dr. Jason F. Campbell and wife Martha of Carrabassett, ME, five grandchildren, Grant Dipman and wife Silvia of Park City, UT, Autumn Saul and husband Thomas of Augusta, GA, Erin Ellis and husband Brett of Orono, ME, Anne Newsom and husband Matt of Charlestown, MA, and Margaret Campbell of Belfast, ME; and seven great grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie Dipman, Thomas, Christopher and Benjamin Saul and Emily and Bailey Ellis, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Sandy River Center staff for the compassionate and dignified care they provided June the past year and a half.
Burial services will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, ME., in the spring, date and time to be announced.
