William F. Helm, Jr. age 93, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, ME on June 1, 1925 a son of the late William F. Helm, Sr., and Phoebe M. (Braun) Helm.
Mr. Helm was a graduate of Cony High School and was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II and was held prisoner for six months in Czechoslovakia.
He had been employed as a Statistician by the State of Maine for over 40 years at the Highway Department.
Bill was, in a word, faithful. As husband, father, churchman, servant and prayer warrior, Bill was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he served his Lord as Board Member, Sunday School Teacher and Missions President.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Esther E. (Windsor) Helm; a daughter, Sherryl A. Helm and two sisters: Marjorie Chatto and Beverly Newbert.
Mr. Helm is survived by his children: Gail E. Duffy of Holliston, MA and Rev. Jon W. Helm and his wife Susan of Dartmouth, MA; five grandchildren, a great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Saturday, January 19th from 10-11 AM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 30 Nazarene Dr., Augusta where a funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be in the spring in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Winthrop St., Augusta.
