Jack R. Brown - age 70, of the Winthrop Road, Readfield and formerly of China Maine, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2018 with his loving family at his side. He was born in Augusta, Maine on April 11, 1948, the son of Russell F. and Marguerite E. (Pickett) Brown.
Jack was educated in the Augusta school system and graduated from Cony High School, Class of 1967. After high school, Jack enlisted and served honorably in the United States Navy, both stateside and in Europe. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Maine at Augusta where he received an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. Early on in his business career, Jack was self-employed in the tractor equipment business. For the past twenty plus years, he was self-employed as an ASHI certified Home Inspector and retired as a Gold Member in good standing. He was also a Trustee of the Augusta Sanitary District for over twenty years and a member of Natanis Golf Course.
Jack loved to hunt, fish, and go four wheeling. Golfing was another one of his great passions. Nothing was more important to Jack than his family whom he loved dearly. Jack and his grandsons Nathan and Cameron had recently embarked on a new hobby of forging. This is an everlasting piece of him Nathan and Cameron will carry on to be connected with their beloved grandfather. Happiest of times was spent travelling with his wife Doris, visiting and fishing with his son JJ in Alaska, going to North Carolina to spend time with his daughter Jessica or spending time making projects with his grandsons.
Jack is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Charest) Brown of Readfield, his daughter Jessica Ledger (Dave) of Ashville, North Carolina; two sons: Josiah J. (fiancé Amy) of Cooper Landing, Alaska, Jason Foster (Brenda) of Readfield; one brother, Thomas Brown of Augusta; two sisters, Susanne Buddington (Geffrey) of South Carolina and Mary Ann Fortin (Moe) of Augusta; two very special grandsons Nathan and Cameron Foster of Readfield. His beloved golden retriever Lily. He is also survived by six sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, along with several nephews and nieces who loved their Uncle Jack and hold many fond memories of times spent with him. Additionally, he is survived by numerous cousins from near and far that he had special childhood memories with.
Visiting hours are 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street Augusta where a Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 PM. Committal prayers and military honors will follow in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
