Lorraine T. “Gims” Danforth - age 83, of Hallowell Road, died Dec. 8, 2018 at Mount St. Joseph Rehabilitation in Waterville after a courageous battle with liver cancer. She was born in Augusta, Maine on June 14, 1935 the daughter of Henry Bechard and Alida (Veilleux) Bechard.
Lorraine was a 1954 graduate of Cony High School. She was employed as office manager for 54 years by Dr. Robert A. Patenaude DDS in Augusta. She owned and operated Gims Chocolates with her daughter in Chelsea for 25 years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Parish at St. Augustine Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society. She stayed connected with her fellow graduates by being part of the high school reunion planning committee and Class of ’54 Lunch Bunch.
Lorraine enjoyed the annual pumpkin carving parties with the family and the resulting display at their home on the Hallowell Road. She crocheted many afghans which she gave to family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandsons.
Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence E. Danforth, by an infant son, David H. Danforth, by her parents, and by two brothers, Aime Bechard and Roger Bechard.
She is survived by a son, Richard E. Danforth and wife, Anne of Chelsea, ME; a daughter, Debra A. Danforth of Chelsea, ME; two sisters: Christine Dupuis and Edna Doyon, both of Augusta, ME; two grandchildren: Melissa Marable and husband Jason and Ryan Danforth and wife Kimberly; eight great grandsons: Osiris, Xavian, Justice, Jasai, Tyris and Kingston Marable and Rowan and Noah Danforth, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday Dec. 13th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3 PM for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday Dec. 14th at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Avenue, Augusta, ME. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, ME.
