Erlene H. (Webster) Chick, age 86, died Monday, December 3, 2018 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta following a long illness. She was born at home in Auburn, ME on November 21, 1932 the only daughter of the late Kenneth M. Webster, Sr. and Lillie (Buck) Webster.
Erlene was raised in Wales, ME and attended a one room schoolhouse until 8th grade. She graduated from Monmouth Academy in the class of 1951, where there were a total of only twelve graduates. She excelled in bookkeeping, typing and general office work.
In 1953, she married her life partner, the love of her life, Richard Chick. After he graduated from radio & TV repair school in Boston, they moved back to Maine and she was his office manager and bookkeeper for Dick’s Radio & TV Repair Shop on Sand Hill in Augusta, all the while raising their four children. Erlene was Richard’s partner in all their business ventures and was a supportive and kind wife and mother. She treasured their multiple cross-country trips, in which they visited all but three states, and their 25th wedding anniversary adventure in Hawaii. Erlene was an avid reader, she loved crossword puzzles and she followed the Mark Trail comic strip faithfully since the mid 1960’s. Erlene was also know for her works of art created with yarn, either knitted or crocheted. She was a quick-witted, proud person and all who met her have fond memories of their conversations with her. She will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
Erlene is pre-deceased by her husband, Richard G. Chick, Sr.; a son, Richard G. Chick, Jr. and three brothers: Donald Webster, Sr., Kenneth Webster, Jr. and Robert Webster.
She is survived by three children: Sterling R. Chick and his wife Maureen Deger of Bellingham, WA, Andrea S. Willson and her husband Howard of Wellington, FL and Michael W. Chick and his wife Dedra of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, December 28th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Burial will be at a later date in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
