Robert A. Veilleux, age 78, died Friday, November 2, 2018 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, ME on June 13, 1940 a son of the late Adelbert A. and Alexandrine (Dionne) Veilleux.
Mr. Veilleux was a graduate of Cony High School, attended the University of Maine at Augusta and was a US Marine, retiring after 21 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Mr. Veilleux had been employed by the University of Maine at Augusta for 21 years and had previously worked for RN Sylvester Contractor and DL Fleury’s for many years.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, Capitol City Rifle and Pistol Club and was a former member of the Calumet Club. Through his 12 years of work with the Young Marines, Robert and his wife developed a strong relationship with Bill Fuller and wife Deb.
Mr. Veilleux was pre-deceased by a brother, Roland Veilleux.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Roberta A. (White) Veilleux of Chelsea; a son, James R. Veilleux and wife Kathy of Farmingdale; two daughters: Lynn M. Dorso and husband Harry of Farmingdale and Sherry Thurlow and husband Dave of Farmingdale; two brothers: Michael Veilleux of Florida and Ken Gotreau of Sidney; two sisters: Blanche Rogers and Bernice McAuliffe both of Florida; seven grandchildren: Brittney Brinzow, Tyler Veilleux, Erica Moreau, Elisha Steward, Ryan Dorso, Samantha Coutts and Billy Stanley, eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
“Pep” will best be remembered best for his dedication to the Corps, his remarkable sense of humor and an ice cold beer in a frozen mug during family gatherings.

Relatives and friends may visit Monday, November 5th from 1-3 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St. , Augusta where a funeral service will follow at 3 PM . Following cremation, committal prayers and military honors will take place on Wednesday, November 7th at 12 noon in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
Those who desire may make donations in Robert’s memory to: Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA, 01104.
