Obituary for Ronald Clifford Young

ROME, MAINE
Ronald C. Young - age 70, died Saturday, September, 22, 2012 at the Hospice Unit of the Department of Veterans Affairs Center at Togus after an extended illness. He was born in Topsham, ME on July 29, 1942 the son of the late Royce A. Young, Sr. and Hazel E. (Evrard) Young.
Ron was a 1960 graduate of Amesbury (MA) High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He was employed as a general manager of the Travel Lodge in Augusta for five years. He was previously employed in the same capacity by Cape Ann’s Marina Resort in Gloucester, MA for six years, the Andover Inn in North Andover, MA for 4 years and by Howard Johnson’s Hotel in Haverhill, MA for 19 years.
In his spare time, Ron enjoyed tending to his flower gardens, relaxing on his boat and traveling with his wife. He will be fondly remembered for his ability to “get ya” with his creative and spontaneous practical jokes!
Ron was a member of the Union Church of Belgrade Lakes (UMC), a former member of the East Parish United Methodist Church of Salisbury, MA, St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge of Newburyport, MA and the Lions Club of Salisbury, MA.
Ron was a very dedicated and hard working man; a wonderful father and husband; a solid provider for his family.
Ron was predeceased by his brother, Richard D. Young, who died soon after his birth in 1941.
He sadly leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Louise L. (Larochelle) Young of Rome; three daughters: Sheri Cleveland of Orange, MA, Melanie Gardella of Salisbury, MA and Joy Young of Seabrook, NH; two brothers: Royce A. Young, Jr. of Bradenton, FL and Timothy R. Young of Marshall, TX; one sister, Nancy Zambella of Brick, NJ; six grandchildren: Jamie Cleveland, Sydney Cleveland, Bryce Cleveland, Corey Richards, Christopher Gardella and Lindsey Gardella; as well several nieces, nephews, cousins, his beloved Aunt, Mary Young of Bowdoinham, ME and many faithful friends, especially those from the Class of 1960 from Amesbury High School.
There are no visiting hours planned. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 28th at 11 AM at Union Church (UMC), 67 Main Street, Belgrade Lakes. Committal with military honors will follow at the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. A second memorial service is planned for a later date in Massachusetts. Please keep checking the funeral home website for the announcement of the date and time.
