Simone Poulin, 93, of Northern Avenue, died at her home Monday, August 27, surrounded by her three nieces and friends. She was born in St. Benoit de Labre, Quebec, Canada, November 6, 1924, the daughter of Vital and Valerie (Thibodeau) Poulin.
She arrived in the United States in 1928 and graduated from St. Augustine School. One of her proud moments of her life was receiving her G.E.D.
Although she was a homemaker and caregiver for several members of her family for most of her life, she had been employed at Gardiner Shoe, State of Maine, Sexton Drug Store, D. W. Adams, and then Arbour Sandwich Shop.
She was a communicant of St. Augustine Church of St. Michael Parish.
Simone was predeceased by her sisters, Yvonne Bineau. Rose A. Tondreau, Valeda Quirion, Albertine Poulin, Alphonsine Lachance, Merilda Paradis and her brother, Avenant L. Poulin.
Survivors include three nieces, Jeannine Albert, Jeanne Quirion, Rita Lachance-Stevens, a nephew, Raymond Bineau and several cousins including Norman Bilodeau of Londonderry, N.H.
Her devotion to her faith was clearly shown through the daily recitation of many rosaries. Simone made the moment special for so many people. She refreshed an entire community with her rare presence. One of her favorite activities was visits to the Maine coast with her niece, Rita.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mt. St. Joseph in Waterville especially Chaplain Annette Rioux, Homecare of Maine, VNA Home Health, and Elderly in Maine for the wonderful care and compassion Simone received.
Friends may visit from 4 - 6 PM Friday Augusta, 31 and 9:30 to 10:30 Saturday September 1, 2018 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta.
