Joseph A. Duplessis, age 91, formerly of Winthrop, died Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the MaineGeneral Comfort Care Center at Glenridge following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, ME on July 19, 1927 a son of the late Leo and Rose (Bolduc) Duplessis.
Mr. Duplessis attended St. Augustine School and was a communicant of St. Augustine and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Augusta and Winthrop.
He was a US Army veteran, retiring after 20 years in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Duplessis had been employed by Pineland Boot Company, Hallowell Shoe, E.E. Taylor Shoe, R.P. Hazzard Shoe and Bates Mfg. - Edwards Division.
He was a member of the Calumet Club and AARP.
Mr. Duplessis was pre-deceased by his wife, Dolores (Pomerleau) Duplessis, a brother, Louis Duplessis and two grandchildren: Emily Walker and Drew Logan.
He is survived by seven children: Theresa Barrows and her husband Richard of Augusta, Anita Bunker and her husband Herbert of Augusta, Leo Duplessis and his wife Carole of Rome, Lucille Walker of Homosassa, FL, Patrick Duplessis and his wife Tina of Winthrop, Forest Duplessis and his wife Robin of Augusta and Annette Logan and her husband David of Chelsea; a sister, Rita Doyon of Winthrop; a brother-in-law, Armand Pomerleau and his wife Hope of Zephyrhills, FL; his companion, Giselle Dulac; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, August 29th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 6 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, August 30th at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
