Isabelle "Izzy" Gilbert (Soucie)
Isabelle S. “Izzy” Gilbert, age 90, died Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness. She was born in Caribou, ME on July 22, 1927 a daughter of the late Ephrem and Marie (Sirois) Soucie.
Mrs. Gilbert was a graduate of Caribou High School and Gates Business College and was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
She had been a homemaker for most of her life, but had worked several jobs including: the IRS, Pomerleau’s Bakery, Chernowsky’s and John Bush, Esq.
Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of St. Anne Society, Ladies of St. Andrew’s, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the National Association Parliamentarians.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Edmond P. Gilbert in 1998 as well as 11 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by a son, E. Patrick Gilbert and his wife Julanne of Hallowell; a daughter, Susan Fletcher and her husband David of Augusta; two grandchildren: Sam and Emily Gilbert and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, May 24th from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, May 25th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will be at a later date in the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the entire staff at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation and Beacon Hospice for their kind, loving and supportive care given to Isabelle and her family for the past seven years.
