Bertie Frank Shorey - 75, of Palmero and Ocala, FL, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 27, 2018. He was born on March 8, 1943 in Palermo, Maine to Wilbur and Winifred Shorey.
Mr. Shorey was in the Navy from 1960 to 1964. He served on the USS Wasp in the Bay of Pigs. He received medals for Navy Expeditionary and Good Conduct. He was very proud of his time serving his country and in later life became a member of the American Legion, Post #163 in Palermo, Maine.
After his time in the military, Mr. Shorey worked as a pastry chef in Boston, MA and at the Worcester House in Hallowell, Maine. He briefly worked at Williams Concrete and then made his career as the supervisor in the weaving room at Carlton Woolen Mill in Winthrop, Maine.
Mr. Shorey had a deep interest in genealogy in which he researched his family tree. He also had an extensive coin collection for many years that he would spend hours protecting and labeling. He was a regular at Greg’s in China, Maine and the Liberty Trading Post, Liberty, Maine for his morning breakfast with friends. He was also a very good dancer and spent many weekends at Crystal Falls.
Mr. Shorey was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Marilyn Shorey and two sisters, Darlene Estabrook and Joanne Shorey.
Surviving is his wife Norma Swift-Shorey of Palermo, ME, two sons Brian Shorey of Hallowell, ME and Scott Shorey; four step-children: Cheryl Berry and husband Russ Allen of Palermo, ME, Angela Gentili and Steve of Rome, ME, Gordon Swift Jr. and wife Neysa of Palermo, ME, Jeremy Swift and wife Tracy of Palermo, ME; three sisters Diane Plato of China, ME, Annie Pillsbury of Augusta, ME, Kathy Levesque of China, ME and one brother David Crommett of China, ME; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
There are no public visiting hours scheduled. Committal prayers with military honors will be held 10 AM Wednesday May 2, 2018 in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon, Rd., Augusta, ME.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Road, Windsor, ME.
