Catherine Paterson (Gordon)
With heavy hearts we say goodbye to an extraordinary woman. Catherine Betty Gordon d'Auteuil Paterson - age 97 formerly of Court Street in Augusta passed away peacefully April 10, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born in Pittston, Maine on Dec. 2, 1920, the daughter of William Earle Gordon and Ida Mae (McCurdy) Gordon.
She attended school in Pittston and Gardiner High School.
Catherine worked most of her life in the shoe manufacturing industry in Maine, working for Commonwealth Shoe Co, Taylor Shoe Co., and Hazzard Shoe Co. Upon the closing of E.E. Taylor Shoe she went to work at Augusta Mental Health Institute as an Activities Coordinator until her retirement and her dream of getting out of the cold and moving to Florida where she resided for 30 years. She then returned to Maine a few years ago due to declining health issues.
Catherine was predeceased by her first husband Thomas W. d'Auteuil of Augusta, and her second husband John Paterson of Canada and her long time companion James Berry of Minnesota. She was also predeceased by her oldest child MSG Lawrence T. d'Auteuil, her siblings; Vivian (Merle) Reynolds of Bridgton, Beatrice (Brad) Bradstreet of Augusta, Marion (Harold)Shaw of Hallowell, Margurite (Lawrence) Thibeau of Freeport, Rachel (Harry) Fotakis of Winthrop, Barbara of Pittston, Violet (Larry) Putnam of Randolph, Isobel (Burleigh) Putnam of Randolph, Beverly (Robert) Nixon of Winslow, Earle (Bea) Gordon of Augusta, Olin of Augusta, James (Vivian) Gordon of Gardiner, Robert (Ann) of Gardiner, Leon (Margaret) of Gardiner, Harry (Velina) of Arkansas.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Hanley Fairfield and husband Richard of Pittston, Cathy (Michael) McCollett of Augusta, Thomas d'Auteuil of Augusta, John d'Auteuil of Augusta, William d'Auteuil and wife Betty of Mesa, Arizona, and Timothy d'Auteuil and wife Marilyn of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Daniel (Patricia) Hanley of Dresden, Patrick Hanley of Pittston, Katherine Hanley (David) of Litchfield, John (Danielle) d'Auteuil of Nebraska, Ben (Shelly) d'Auteuil and Joseph (Angela) d'Auteuil of New Mexico, David (Kaitlyn) d'Auteuil of Arizona, John (Justine) d'Auteuil of California, Michael (Amy) McCollett of Augusta, Daniel (Candace) of Colorado, Alexander d'Auteuil of Wisconsin and Arthur d'Auteuil of Texas; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
We wish to thank the staff at the Woodlands for all their kindness and professional care Mom received the short time she was there.
There are no planned visiting hours. Following cremation, there will be a graveside service held at a later date at St. Augustine Cemetery, Augusta. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Arch Beta Apt Complex in the Community Hall, 21 Grey Birch Dr., Augusta, Maine at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday April 28th.
