Condolences

Condolence From: christine slader
Condolence: To the family and friends of Norm Famous,
I am so very sorry that Norm has passed. He will forever be my favorite college professor.I was an education major at Orono and I needed just 1 more class to graduate early. I liked plants so thought Botany would be a good choice and an easy one. After my first day and seeing the giant Latin filled text I was quite certain i would not make it through that class. Thanks to the inspiring teachings of Norm Famous and some hard work on my part I earned an A! He made learning so rewarding and interesting - taking us down railroad beds to hunt for wild columbine, slogging through peat bogs to discover the curious pitcher plant or demonstrating how to converse with a woodpecker by rapping on his clipboard. To this day his class has influenced me in my life choices( i teach gardening to children at our community garden). I hope that your feelings of loss will be lightened to know that he left his positive mark on this UMO student and I will continue to think of him in my natural encounters with the world. Condolence From: Sandi and Bob Duchesne
Condolence: We feel so very lucky to have had the privilege of knowing Norm as an outstanding birder and good friend for almost 30 years. He introduced us to many of our favorite birding areas in Washington County, and he guided or co-guided many outstanding field trips for the Penobscot Valley Chapter of Maine Audubon. I can’t count the number of times we have been tromping through the woods and someone has said, “Remember that time when Norm…?”

He was forced to slow down a bit in recent years due to illness and physical limitations, but Norm remained cheerful, energetic, and immersed in the natural world around him. We will miss this gentle, intuitive, larger-than-life man, and we offer our deepest condolences to Marcia, Erica, and Norm's extended network of family and friends as they mourn his loss.

But for Norm himself, mixed with grief I feel a certain sense of joy - because he's finally free of a body that was not enabling him to do the things he wanted to do. Wishing you tons of great new adventures on the other side, Norm!

Condolence: Norm is easily one of my all-time favorite people. We were so blessed to have had him as part of the family. I just wish we had lived closer so that I could have spent more time getting to know him.
