Bruce W. Dyer, age 73, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Gray Birch Drive following a long illness. He was born in Augusta, ME on January 1, 1944, the first baby born in Augusta that year, the son of the late Archie and Bertha (Beaulieu) Dyer.
Mr. Dyer attended Augusta and Chelsea schools and Erskine academy in Windsor.
He had been employed at Frank X. Pomerleau for 15 years. He previously worked for Farrell’s and Days Jewelers.
Mr. Dyer loved his family more than anything, especially the grandchildren who he spent much time with as they were growing up. He was a life long stock car fan and enjoyed many NASCAR races in Louden, NH. He also enjoyed country music and spent several years on the board of directors for the MACM. He also loved traveling and he and his wife had many special trips to Florida the Caribbean and to Hawaii for their 40th anniversary.
Mr. Dyer was pre-deceased by three brothers: Grover, Archie, Jr. and Roland Dyer and his sister, Virginia Bouchard.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gail E. (Hescock) Dyer of Randolph; two daughters: Annette L. Andreasen of Augusta and Karen L. Cote and her husband Donald, Jr. of Sidney; a brother, Earl C. Dyer of Augusta; five grandchildren: Michael and Anthony Cennamo, Elizabeth Andreasen and Sarah and Matthew Cote as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, January 8th from 11AM-12PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a memorial service will follow at 12 PM. Burial will be in the spring in Coombs Mills Cemetery, Augusta.
Those who desire may make donations in Bruce’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
