Obituary for Cecile M Lachance (Dupuis)
Cecile M. Lachance, age 85, died Saturday, November 4, 2017 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Glenridge following a long illness. She was born in Augusta, ME on August 28, 1932 a daughter of the late Odilon and Delvina (Jolicoeur) Dupuis.
Mrs. Lachance attended Augusta schools and was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
She had been employed for 40 years at Statler Tissue. She had previously worked at Bates Mfg. - Edwards Division. Following her retirement, she enjoyed waitressing at the Augusta Civic Center and the Calumet Club.
Mrs. Lachance was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society, the Cushnoc Senior Citizens and in her early years the Calumet Club Drum and Bugle Corps. She did a lot of knitting, donating many items to the Church bazaars held throughout the years as well as ceramic items and other crafts.
Cecile’s favorite things were gardening, both vegetable and flowers. She grew beautiful Lupines and Sunflowers. She and her husband, Emile, enjoyed their home on Mt. Vernon Ave., where they lived for many years. They travelled with several other Augusta friends to the World’s Fair in New York, Hawaii, Texas and Florida. They also enjoyed dancing at the Calumet Club. Some of her fondest memories were family gatherings by the pool.
She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Carol A. Lachance; her brother, Roland “Duke” Dupuis; her two sisters: Rita Hall and Theresa Poulin; a son-in-law, Rudy Lavallee and a brother-in-law, Clermont Poulin.
Mrs. Lachance is survived by her husband of 62 years, Emile J. Lachance of Augusta; two daughters: Theresa Lavallee and Pauline Lachance both of Augusta; three grandchildren: Melissa Monroe, Jayson Pare and his wife Kristin and Brent Lavallee; five great grandchildren: Ben Monroe, Nathan Pare, Hannah Pare, Carter Lavallee and Kinzey Lavallee; a brother-in-law, Ron Hall, Sr.; a sister-in-law, Christine Dupuis as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Sunday, November 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 13th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
