Obituary for Mary Ellen Louise Oliver (Bennett)
Mary Ellen L. (Poulin) Oliver, 73, died Thursday, October 12, 2017 with loved ones by her side following a long illness. Mary was born in Gardiner on October 18, 1943, the daughter of Helen Margaret (McMillan) and Russell Oliver Bennett. She graduated from Cony High School in 1962.
In 1972, along with her ex-husband, Larry J. Poulin, Mary was self-employed at Poulin Cycle in Augusta. She was a great salesperson, enjoyed supporting/particpating in the Trek Across Maine, and especially loved outfitting Special Olympians with skis for winter games. After the sale of Poulin Cycle, she was employed by LJP Enterprises until Olive Garden opened in Augusta; she worked there as a hostess and bartender for 9 years until she retired in 2004.
She met her husband, Gerald A. Oliver at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Gardiner. She and her husband would summer on Messalonskee in Oakland, Maine and would winter in Venice, Florida. After Gerry's death in 2006, Mary stayed at their home in Venice. She returned to Maine in July of this year to be with her family, where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Gardiner, Maine and the American Legion in Venice, Florida where she also tended bar. She is a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Gardiner. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church while living in Augusta and served as a past Eucharistic Minister.
Mary's favorite past time was being with her family and rooting on the Red Sox of whom she was a die hard fan. She was an excellent cribbage player and loved tending her Tiki Bar "In the Hood" down in Venice during Happy Hour at a different car port each night. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts especially sewing, dancing and her new found love "Words with Friends".
Aside from her husband Gerry, she was predeceased by her sister, Gloria Hayden; her parents; and her grandson, Robert "RJ" Moore, III.
She is survived by her children, Larry J. Poulin II and his companion, Laurie Hudson of Turner; Lisa P. Wright and her husband Stephen of Augusta; Lori Poulin Hodgkins and her fiance Dennis McHugh of Monmouth; and Lee J. Poulin and his wife Holly of Fairfield; Her grandchildren, Justin A. Wright and his wife Laura of Dallas, Texas; her "favorite granddaughter" Meghann Ellen Bolduc and her husband, Frank of Albion; Ryan L. Minoty of Augusta; Alec, Jarryd and Derrick Roberts-Poulin of Farmingdale; and Jacob Lee Poulin of Fairfield; Her great grandchildren, Arianna Elizabeth Moore of Winthrop; Lyla Hope and Gage William Bolduc of Albion; her partner of 8 years, Neil Collins, Sr. of Milford, Connecticut and Venice, Florida; their cat, Boots; and her very special friend, Kim Easler Arbour of Augusta.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 11 am - 2 pm at Le Club Calumet, West River Road, Augusta, ME.
