Obituary for Francina A. Doyon (Piper)
Francina Piper Doyon, age 83, passed away to be with those gone before her on Thursday, October 12, 2017. She was a mother to many and fondly known as “Mama D”, “Nana D” and Nana. Francina was born in Windsor, ME on July 14, 1934, the youngest of twelve children born to Arthur H. Piper and Christabell (Norton) Piper.
Francina attended Cony High School and also Gates Business College.
For over 25 years, she dedicated her life and career to being a foster parent along with her husband.
She also was employed by Berry’s Cleaners in Augusta for 10 years.
Francina was a member of St. Michael Parish and also enjoyed going to services at United Pentecostal Church with her son, Patrick, where she was baptized and born again to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was a member and very active in the Boy Scouts being a den mother when all of her sons were young. Francina was also one of the founding members and active in the Sharpies Cossack Drill Team.
In addition, she was a member of the Foster Parent Association and Maine Assoc. of Retirees.
Besides being a devoted caretaker, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting and listening to country music. A pair of “Nana’s” mittens was a favorite gift many children looked forward to. Family and holidays were very special to her as well.
Francina was pre-deceased by her husband of 44 years, Nelson H. Doyon, in 1998, and her eldest son, David N. Doyon, in 2010. Also four sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her only daughter, Diane Vorpagel of Augusta; four sons: Christopher W. Doyon and his wife Heidi of Hampton, VA; Eric Doyon and his wife Carrie of Houston, TX; Patrick Doyon of Marianna, FL; and Charles “Chuck” Doyon of Augusta; 10 grandchildren: Heather Stratz, Starcia Erving, Ariel, Christopher and Corina Doyon, Kyle Vorpagel, Jennifer Parks, Patricia Hartman, Mary Jane Doyon and George Doyon and also several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Three special girls in “Mama D’s” life were Annie Larson, Erin Brooks and Leslie Sergeant as well as dedicated life-long friends Janet Beaulieu and Rene and Beverly Pomerleau.
Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Monday, October 16th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 17th at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.
