Obituary for Gerald Vincent "Vinnie" Ouellette
Gerald Vincent “Vinnie” Ouellette, age 75, died Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta following a long illness with family by his side. He was born in Augusta, ME on January 12, 1942 a son of the late G. Alexis and Lucy M. (Godbout) Ouellette.
Mr. Ouellette attended Augusta schools, was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was the longest tenured member of the Pine Cone Reelers Square Dance Club, where he attained a high level of expertise.
He had been employed by the State of Maine, Bureau of Public Improvements for 31 years. He previously worked as a short order cook in several local restaurants.
Vinnie had a big heart and a kind soul, which he showed by his volunteerism, spending time with the older generation, especially at Gray Birch Nursing Home in Augusta.
He had a passion for travel, going to places like Egypt, Portugal, Italy, Israel, Hawaii and Spain to name a few. He also enjoyed his many trips to his brothers camp at Moosehead where he spent his time swimming, taking pictures and relaxing.
Mr. Ouellette was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert R. Ouellette.
He is survived by a brother, Norman J. Ouellette of Rockwood; a sister-in-law, Joan Ouellette of Augusta; one niece, Jean Ouellette Brillant of Whitefield, two nephews: Richard Ouellette and his wife Susan of Gardiner and Thomas Ouellette and his wife Denise of Acton, MA and several cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews and many special friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Kennebec Kidney Center and the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta for the care and compassion they showed to Vinnie during his times with them.
Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday, September 26th from 9:30-10:30 AM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 26th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
