Obituary for Irene Elliott
Irene E. Elliott - age 87, of Northern Avenue, died March 28, 2017 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch Drive after a brief illness. She was born in Rumford, Maine on Sept. 30, 1929 the daughter of Osgood and Gertrude (Betit) Virgin.
Irene moved to Augusta when she was 3 years old. She attended St. Mary’s School in Augusta and Mt. Merici Academy in Waterville, graduating from Cony High School in Augusta.
Mrs. Elliott was a member of St. Michael Parish and St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church, was on the prayer chain, and did volunteer work on Sunday’s at the Veterans Center at Togus.
Irene enjoyed spending time with family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Irene was employed by Hazzard Shoe Company and Augusta General Hospital, but mostly she was self employed, d.b.a. Mimi’s Day Care for 30 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Elliott, Sr., by her parents, by a son, James Elliott, a daughter, Elaine Elliott, and a brother, William Virgin.
Surviving are her three children: Harold Elliott, Jr. and his wife Ann of Augusta, Jeffery Elliott and his wife Debbie of Augusta, and Elizabeth Elliott and her fiancée Brian Fortin of Augusta; her grandchildren: Krista Smith and her husband Shane, Courtney Elliott and Camryn Elliott, all of Augusta, Katie and her husband Kyle Ryerson of Cumberland, sister-in-law Cindy Elliott of Eastport, and close friend Christy and her husband Shannon Mullavey of Melbourne Vic, Australia; three great-grandchildren: Trent Smith of Augusta, Grace & Luke Ryerson of Cumberland,; step-grandchildren: Melissa & Dustin Harvey of Oregon, Shawn Neville & his girlfriend Alicia Tuttle and their son, Forest, Joe Brad Shaw of Biddeford, Renee and Nate Wade of Manchester and their four children: Michael, Steven, Sara and Lauren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday March 31st at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the Daughters of Isabella are asked to meet at 2 PM to offer a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday April 1st at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta, ME. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester at a later date.
